CONDUCTION

DEFINATION: Conduction is the process of thermal energy without any flow of the material medium.

Thermal energy is transferred from a region of higher temp. to a lower temp. but the time interval that it is transferred varies on the type of medium being used.

thermal energy is transferred faster in a good conductor (eg. wood) but slower in a poorer conductor( insulator).

this reminds me of a joke. one day a conductor lost his baton hence uses a sword to conduct. during practice, a player was constanly playing out of tune and the conductor got very angry and threw the sword at the player. he killed the player and was sentence to death through a electric chair but survived. the law states that if a man is not dead by the electric chair after 3 times of shocking, he can be released. and one day, the conductor lost his baton again and the same thing happen and still survived the electric chair. Why is this so? it is because he was a bad conductor.



Heat travels up slowly through the wooden and plastic ladle and even faster through the metal ladle thus the metal ladle will feel heated faster compared to the wooden and plastic ladles.

Heat is transferred when molecules start to vibrate rapidly and bumping faster and faster into their slower"neighbors" causing them to speed up in turns . this process continues throughout the ladle ,the increase speed in vibration and therefore the heat is passed on to molecule to molecule or from atom to atom.

why are metals good conductors?

Metal contains electrons that are not attracted to nucleus ,moving in a random motion. FREE ELECTRONS

Not only the atoms at the end of the ladle start to vibrate , the electrons also speed up and begin to move faster, colliding with the atoms more often and with more force.

Each time a free electron collides with an atom ,it causes that atom to vibrate a little faster.

The metals contain millions of those free electrons with collides with atoms and speed up the vibrations of atoms and the transfer of heat .

Thus non metals are bad conductors of heat while metals are better conductors of heat

so the story went like this ..

some fine day after chapel mr lim wanted to see our class about something i dun remember

and mention something about some science competition that would be fun

sara,isabel,kelly,sylvia join but needed 5 ppl ..

so i joined too .. :P

so we needed to go for some auditions and written test


..so we went for the auditions la demonstrated the concept of sound .. and managed to miss tiny bit of lessons ( still got chem spa :( )


and we went for the written test on some day mrs loo send us there ... biopous


and the written test ended explore the place abit .. explored a little too much with kelly :P haha


we all did the test so badly that it it should never be mentioned


and the toilet was cool k ... super cool seats with sensors haha


went ps ate macs ( its a treat ) !


me and kelly went back to school ,the rest went to catch a movie


saw mr lim .. told him how bad the test was and all the schools who got in were the ri rgs .. all the super amart one :(


played some table tennis :) and left .






on tuesday when i was finding isador during the fantasia ... actually slacking around .. :P haha


saw mr lim .. he tried to tell me i got into the wild card dunno what for the thingy ..


i didnt believe ..
not that i dun trust my teacher


but i seriously tot he was lying




until he convinced me by giving me the letter






still couldn't actually believe i lost my appetite for lunch

told to report there the next day ..


i stoned .. for a very long time .. very long time :P haha








i asked mr lim for admission for all of them to science centre .. and yay!



met my new team .. they are all scholars!!!! one vietnam scholar one china scholar .. and got another china scholar which wasnt there... and the other i also expect her to be a scholar too.. .


this makes me so pressurised .. like seriousely .. to be in a mist of smart scholars isnt as easy as i tot ... i guess i am just not up to it >.< size="1">and two of our beloved friends sacrificed to use the dryer in the male toilet by just walking into male toilet .. !!!! ahha.. really kept me and isabel laughing
seriousely sholdnt have done tat ..


took a super long train ride to bishan ..ate at pasta mania :) took circle line after tat (my first time )

school was .... nice ..thank goodness sha recovered ..haha missed her while she wasnt in schol on friday .. haahaa.. hey kelly.. nice walking and talking about everything in the tiny walkwalk today .. hahahah

me sha spent the whole lesson trying to play with it .. but kindof failed :p haha .. and tried to shift it from the water bottle to the test tube to the green tea bottle .. saving it from getting its wings stuck in the water ... haha ( its fun to see that small thing struggle in a drop of water ) haha i so evil .. heheh
and finally leaving it in school cos i didnt boder bringing it home :p aha and i dunno if it kind of died .. oops .. cpr ! haha sha you so funny to day
